AMS reviewing final HSP Regulation

The final Hazardous and Special Products (HSP) Regulation has been issued under Ontario’s Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act.

Most obligations under the regulation take effect on October 1, 2021. In the coming weeks, AMS will issue a timeline for easy reference by producers.

The new regulatory framework introduces significant changes to how producers will meet their obligations for their materials. The implementation of individual producer responsibility (IPR) creates a new legal obligation. Producers have the choice of meeting their obligations on their own or by joining a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO). Further information on the HSP Regulation is available from the Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority.

The Producers’ PRO

AMS is completing the development of its PRO services to assist producers in meeting their new responsibilities for recycling antifreeze, oil containers and oil filters.

AMS will keep you informed as our PRO services are finalized in the weeks ahead and will be updating the AMS website with new information. We will be hosting an information webinar in July to provide details about producer obligations and making AMS your PRO – watch for an invitation.
